Ministries

Children

Children are the foundation of a church, for without them the church would not prosper; they are the tomorrow that we look towards. And just like adults, they have so much to contribute and in such a simple, loving, profound way.

Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ Children have a trusting innocence that we at Haymarket Baptist want to preserve and nurture. We strive to accomplish this through the Children’s Sermon and Sunday School each Sunday morning. We encourage the children to participate in Wednesday children’s ministry and we like to hold regular special events for the children to enjoy and engage in.

Youth

HBC’s youth (grades six through twelve) are led by a group of dedicated adults that volunteer regularly in all aspects of the youth ministry.

The youth at Haymarket Baptist are involved in multiple activities. They meet on Sunday evenings at 5:00 for Ignite. This involves a fellowship time, games, and Bible Study. The Youth participate each year in a Passport mission trip. This activity is funded by money raised at the yearly Valentine Banquet where they serve a meal of homemade food. Other events include leading the worship service on Youth Sunday, attempting to solve Escape Room puzzles, and helping in Vacation Bible School. Our youth come together from all walks of life to learn what it means to be a Christian, continue to grow in their faith together, and make an impact on the world around them.

All young adults in their 20s or 30s are invited to join the 20s and 30s class taught by Pastor Mark Olson and his wife Linda.

We alternate between studying books of the Bible and contemporary Christian books such as Philip Yancy’s The Question That Never Goes Away: Why? The format for the class encourages discussion rather than lecture. Any young adult, single or married, is welcome to attend.

Adult Bible Study

Join one of our three classes on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am.

Ambassador Sunday school class is an adult class made up of varied ages with both married and single members. We use a weekly guide produced by Smyth & Helwys. Through bible study we strive to better understand the spiritual truths of the scriptures and how they can help us in our Christian walk with Christ. Come join us as all are welcome.

Lawler Bible Study Class is a Ladies Class, mainly over 50 yrs. old—but we welcome any age! We use LifeWay materials, called Bible Studies For Life. The format for the class is lecture type with open discussion encouraged.

The Spectrum Class is open to all adults across the spectrum of ages – from young adults to senior citizens. We study one book of the Bible at a time with the teacher leading the discussion each Sunday morning. We learn from each other as all bring knowledge and experience form their lives and individual Bible study. The class meets in the room adjacent to the sanctuary, just behind the choir loft. We generally socialize until 10 am. Several class members sing in the choir and depart early for preparation. Members are very supportive of each other and provide assistance if needed.
